Our Journey: A Quest for Inclusivity and Inner Healing

The Desiderata Center's story is a testament to the transformative power of empathy, perseverance, and a deep-rooted commitment to inclusivity. Founded over a decade ago by Petrovnia McIntosh, our center emerged from a profound desire to create a haven for healing, particularly tailored to the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. Petrovnia's background, as a Black Lesbian, reflects her personal journey of resilience and the strength to surmount adversity. Having grown up in a first-generation immigrant family in New York City, Petrovnia's relocation to Monona, Wisconsin, marked the beginning of a new chapter dedicated to offering a unique space for those seeking healing and support.

With a background in trauma therapy and a pursuit of certification in Hypnotherapy, Petrovnia's vision for the Desiderata Center began to take shape. The center became a beacon of hope, a place where individuals could access specialized therapy, workshops, and supervision, all underpinned by a commitment to making mental health services more accessible. Her dedication to the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, coupled with her extensive training, has empowered Petrovnia to provide a nurturing environment for all who seek transformation and healing. Today, the Desiderata Center stands as a testament to the power of compassion and understanding, where Petrovnia and her team continue to shape lives and create opportunities for growth.
